Soldier charged with injuring infant

A Fort Bragg soldier has been charged with repeatedly abusing an infant, Hoke County authorities said Friday.

Richard Thomas Wing II, 24, of 740 Pinebluff Lake Road in Aberdeen, was arrested Tuesday and charged with felony child abuse inflicting serious injury. He was being held in the Hoke County jail under a $10,000 secured bond.

An infant was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital's Hoke Campus in March with injuries that physicians determined weren't accidental. After several months of testing, authorities found the child had numerous internal injuries at various stages of healing.

Authorities said the alleged abuse occurred at a residence in the 200 block of Driftwood Lane in Raeford between Nov. 30 and March 24.

Wing is a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team at Fort Bragg.
