Softball Rankings: Big shake up leads to Northwest Guilford at No. 1, Mooresville second

Northwest Guilford has taken over the top spot in the HighSchoolOT softball statewide rankings after the first three weeks.

Marvin Ridge, after taking down Hickory Ridge, lost to Piedmont. That created a lot of 704 area code shuffling that swung up Mooresville, Lake Norman, West Stanly, Porter Ridge, South Stanly, and Piedmont.

There were several changes to the area code top 15 rankings.

The new top 25 statewide teams are Porter Ridge, South Stanly, Piedmont, South Central, High Point Christian, Wayne Christian, and North Davidson. They replace Pamlico County, D.H. Conley (the 252 area had a lot of shuffling as well), Cleveland, Wake Forest, South View, Southern Alamance, and Clayton.

Rankings reminders:

• Rankings are updated weekly and released on every Monday
• All high schools in the state of North Carolina, excluding athletic training academies, are eligible for the statewide top 25
• There is a separate top 15 for the state's six area codes that is also updated weekly
• Rankings are paused during the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs
• Final rankings are released the week after the state championships
