Smithfield police searching for home invasion suspects

Authorities are searching for four suspects accused of holding three people captive Friday afternoon in Smithfield.

A homeowner and two other people told police they found four burglars inside a residence at 1871 U.S. Highway 70 Business, near Rose Manor, around 1:30 p.m., police said.

The suspects took the homeowner at gunpoint to a bank where they forced him to withdraw money, police said. The two other people were restrained inside the residence.

The victims, whose names were withheld, were not harmed and were eventually released.
