Smithfield man charged in hit-and-run

A Smithfield man has been charged with running over a man in the parking lot of a bar early Sunday.

John Stanley Creech, 22, was charged Monday with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, felony hit-and-run and driving while impaired.

Investigators said Creech backed his 2005 Toyota Scion into another vehicle outside Plan B Bar, at 519 W. Market St., and then ran over Bryan Michael Gray as Gray tried to stop the Scion from leaving the scene.

Police later found Creech at a friend's house.

Gray, 32, of Four Oaks, remained hospitalized Monday in critical condition, police said.
