Four adults, two minors hospitalized after Raleigh chase ends with crash

A four-vehicle crash that began as a chase on Sunday sent six people to the hospital – including two minors.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers attempted a vehicle stop on the 3300 block of Six Forks Road on a stolen vehicle involved in an earlier robbery.

Police said the vehicle initially stopped, but then drove off. Police engaged in a high-speed chase on Atlantic Avenue.

The suspect car hit another vehicle on Wake Forest Road near the intersection at Capital Boulevard.

Amanda Vargochik, a witness to the crash, said she and her son were nearly hit during the chase.

"There was a car at that intersection, so the car that ran the red light [hit] that car," she said. "Then the car that was hit ricocheted and hit two others that were going the other direction in that intersection."

A large police presence with multiple cruisers and at least two ambulances were on the scene near the Wake Forest Road and Old Louisburg Road intersection in Raleigh just before 1 p.m.

Six total people, including two juveniles, were taken to the hospital with what police called non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said officers took the driver of the suspect vehicle, an adult female, into custody. Vargochik said the driver attempted to run from the crash scene, but officers quickly surrounded her.

"I think that person quickly realized that wasn't going to happen, so [they] stopped, got on the ground and they apprehended that person," said a witness.

The investigation is ongoing, according to police.
