Silver Alert for Sampson County man canceled

The Silver Alert for a 52-year-old Sampson County man who went missing Tuesday from a Beaufort County mental health facility has been canceled.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert for Carl Lee Peterson, who is believed to be cognitively impaired, around 3:45 p.m. It was canceled shortly after 6 p.m.

No information was released on why the alert was canceled or whether Peterson was found safe.
