The Henderson police officer who was shot while investigating the murder of a teenager last week is “okay and healing quickly,” the department said on Facebook on Thursday.

Officer Brandon Mitchell was chasing leads in the murder of 16-year-old Adonious Hawkins, Jr. on July 11 when he was shot.

Mitchell wanted the police department “to let everyone know how much he appreciates the outreach from our citizens and others,” the Facebook post said.

Two teens were charged Monday in Hawkins’ death, authorities said.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting of Mitchell.
