The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office has identified the teenager who died Thursday after a shooting and car crash.

Dakota Lee Johnson, 17, of Fayetteville, was shot May 18 and taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, deputies around midnight responded to a shooting in a neighborhood in the 2300 block of Indian Creek Drive.

Deputies said Johnson had been involved in a crash near the EZ Pass convenience store on Sapona Road, just two minutes from the shooting.

The shooting does not appear random, according to investigators.
