Parents and families are asking questions after a student was assaulted at Orange High School on Monday.

A suspect in the assault, also a student, has been detained, according to Orange County Sheriff's Office. Authorities have taken out a juvenile petition as the suspect is a minor.

Principal Jason Johnson penned a letter to parents after the assault, saying it happened while students were changing classes. The school was placed in a soft lockdown as authorities investigated.

"When something like this happens, all of us will be feeling a variety of emotions, from shock and anger to sadness and worry," Johnson said in the letter. "That is completely normal, and our staff care very much about the feelings our students and staff may be experiencing."

911 audio revealed a call was made to help a 17-year-old female with a back wound in the nurse's office.

Orange County Schools Chief Public Information Officer Kevin Smith said the assault is being investigated by the Orange County Sheriff's Office.\

There is no additional threat to those on campus. There is an additional security presence at the school on Tuesday as well as extra counselors.
