A 30-year-old man who was already in prison on other charges was arrested and charged with the rape of a child, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

Matthew Gordon Williams, of Goldsboro, was charged with first-degree sexual offense of a child, indecent liberties with a child, three counts of incest with a child, first-degree rape, two counts of statutory rape/sex offense and assault on a female, according to the sheriff's office. Williams was given a $3.5 million secured bond.

Authorities charged Williams after a Jan. 4 report was filed alleging Williams sexually abused a child. After conducting interviews with the victims and family members, the sheriff's office arrested and charged Williams.

The offenses occurred over a three-year period.
