Raleigh police have taken a 17-year-old into custody and charged the teen with murder after a shooting last month.

Quintana Lee died from the July 12 shooting on the 2000 block of Orchard Hollow Lane, police said. She was 40.

Lee was a mother of seven children. Her youngest was nine months old.

21-year-old Precious Lewis, one of her daughters, remembers the day she got the call from one of her sisters. She recalled her sister trying to speak through the tears.

"I got scared," Lewis said. "All I heard was, 'Mom got shot. She didn’t tell me if she was alive or had passed away."

Lewis said Lee was sitting downstairs with one of her daughters and a best friend at her home on Orchard Hollow Lane.

They were getting ready to go grocery shopping when the shooting happened.

Another woman and a girl were shot as well, police said.

“I wish she would have left earlier to go shopping,” Lewis said. “None of this would have happened if she had just left.”

Lewis said she will remember her mother as a laid-back person and someone who helped people in need.

"She was my best friend." Lewis said. "She means everything to me. I’m hurt, she should be here."

For her younger siblings, Lewis and Lee's older children will taking care the younger children.

“I’ve been making it,” Lewis said. “I’ve got to make it.”

Police have not released a motive for the shooter.

A GoFundMe page was set up for Lee to cover her funeral costs and support her children.
