Western North Carolina will see some snow this week, according to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

At 7 a.m. on Monday, some flurries were already reported in Boone. The area could see between 1 and 3 inches of snow Monday and Tuesday.

According to Gardner, the North Carolina mountains are under a winter storm warning until Tuesday morning, with up to 10 inches of snow possible in spots.

Gardner said areas like Boone and Asheville shouldn't see more than several inches, but "once you get up to higher elevations, this will be a significant event."

According to the National Weather Service, higher mountain peaks like Beech Mountain and Mount Mitchell could see more than 10 inches.
