Fayetteville police are trying to identify the men who robbed the Gold Factory jewelry store on Morganton Road on Dec. 23, 2010.

Police on Thursday released an image from a security camera at a Fayetteville jewelry store that was robbed a week ago and asked for the public's help to identify the robbers.

A gunman confronted an employee of the Gold Factory, at 5075 Morganton Road, last Thursday night as the employee was taking out the trash, police said. The gunman shot the employee and hit him with the gun, then fired several shots inside the store while demanding that another employee open the cash register for him, police said.

The robber then fled with an undisclosed amount of jewelry and cash in a black Mercedes SUV with damage on the driver's side, police said.

The wounded employee told police that there were two other men outside the jewelry store and possibly a third waiting in the SUV who participated in the robbery.

The employee was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Fayetteville police at 910-433-1851 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS.
