North Carolina colleges, local governments and state agencies that want their student and employee identification cards to satisfy the state's new voter ID requirements will have another chance next month to submit them for approval.

More than 100 student and employee ID cards — including all UNC system student IDs — were approved ahead of the 2023 municipal elections. Those approvals stay in effect through the 2024 elections. Organizations that still need approval can fill out a form and submit a digital image of their card to the State Board of Elections between Nov. 13 and Dec. 15, the board said in a news release Tuesday.

Public and private colleges can submit student and employee IDs, but a separate form is needed for each one, the board said. Schools and government agencies with questions can email VoterID@ncsbe.gov or call 919-814-0700.

Voters added a photo identification requirement to the state constitution in 2018, but multiple lawsuits delayed implementation of the law. The requirement is in place now and expected to be in place for the 2024 elections, though the requirement faced legal challenges that could change the requirement.
