Henderson police on Friday charged a second man in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Thursday afternoon.

Corey Cheek Jr., 17, of Davis Street, was charged with intimidating a witness after being arrested Friday.

According to investigators, Daquan Ortiz, 20, shot Ja'Quon Seward about 1:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of David and Nichola streets. Seward was taken to Maria Parham Hospital, where he died.

Ortiz was arrested Thursday night and charged with voluntary manslaughter in the shooting. He was being held without bond Friday morning.

Cheek received a $10,000 secured bond following his arrest.

It wasn't clear whether Ortiz or Cheek knew Seward.

James Rainey, who witnessed the shooting, said Seward was standing on the corner with several people when shots rang out.

"Boom, boom, boom, and we saw someone lying on the ground," he said.

Henderson police said Friday the investigation of Seward's death is still active. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 252-492-1925.
