School bus crashes in Benson with 24 students on board

One student was injured Thursday when a school bus crashed in Johnston County.

According to Highway Patrol troopers, a 78-year-old woman failed to stop at a stop sign on N.C. Highway 96 near Godwin Lake Road and T-boned the passing school bus.

Johnston County school officials said the crash involved bus 474, which was carrying 24 students from Meadow Elementary and Meadow Middle schools.

One student was taken to Betsy Johnson Hospital with minor injuries.

The 78-year-old was taken to WakeMed with unknown injureis, authorities said.
