Why do we spring forward?

South Carolina lawmakers want to let voters decide if they should continue falling back and springing forward.

Members of a House subcommittee are working on a bill that would let voters decide whether the state continues to observe daylight saving time.

Any measure adopted by the state would have to be approved by Congress.

Arizona, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands have already opted out of daylight saving time.

South Carolina is not the only state making changes to how daylight saving time is observed. Florida lawmakers last month became the first in the nation to pass a bill signaling the intent to stay on daylight saving time year-round.
