Saturday's attendance at the North Carolina State Fair was 118,433, according to Brian Long, public affairs director for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
The 10-year average for the first Saturday is 107,370, Long said.
Last year, more than 1 million people attended the fair over its 11-day run. Organizers say they hope to reach the 1 million mark for attendance for the third year in a row.
If entries for various competitions are any indicator, this year's fair could be the biggest yet.
