Beginning Sept. 1, officers with the Rolesville Police Department will be required to wear body cameras.

According to a news release, body cameras promote greater transparency and accountability by accurately capturing contacts between members of the department and the public, increasing public and officer safety during such contacts, and supporting the department’s mission to create a community that is safe to live, work and play.

“One of the most important benefits of body cameras is that they have been shown to produce better behavior in both police and the public,” said Chief Bobby W. Langston II. “We strive to stay abreast of technology and give our officers every tool or resource possible to help aid them in safeguarding the public and themselves.”

The Rolesville Police Department received grant funding for the body cameras from the Governor’s Crime Commission.
