Rocky Mount police offer rewards in homicide, shooting

Police on Wednesday offered rewards for information leading to arrests in two recent Rocky Mount shootings.

Brian Freeman, 15, was shot to death Jan. 18 as he walked home with a friend on East Highland Ave., police said. The shots were fired from a passing car.

Police said they have received some credible leads in the case, but no arrests have been made.

On Monday, four youths were shot on the basketball court behind Word Tabernacle Church on Edwards Street. Three of the victims, Antwon Jefferson, 13, Michael Lyons, 17 and Jakavis Whaley, 19, received minor injuries, but 12-year-old Nyreek Horne remains in critical condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

The gunman fled in a light-colored SUV that was parked nearby, police said.
