Road work prompts overnight detour for I-95 in Johnston County

Crews will be installing steel girders on Interstate 95 Monday night, and they will close it to traffic between exits 97 and 107. Travelers will be detoured onto U.S. Highway 301.

Construction work on Interstate 95 will mean detours for drivers overnight Monday, Dec. 3, into Tuesday, Dec. 4.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, crews will be installing steel girders on both sides of the highway, part of a $53.1 million project that includes a replacement of the Lizzie Mill Road bridge.

Northbound lanes will be closed to traffic between exits 97 and 107; Southbound will be closed from Exit 102 to Exit 97. Travelers will be detoured onto U.S. Highway 301.

Lanes will be closed from about 11 p.m. Monday and are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday. In between those times, northbound traffic will be forced off at Exit 97, near Selma; southbound traffic will be forced to exit at Exit 102 (Micro).

Work will resume in the same area, with the same lanes closed and the same detours, overnight Thursday from 11 p.m. until Friday at 5 a.m.
