Woman crawls through storm debris during Tuesday's storms

One woman in Garner is recovering Wednesday after a tree fell through her home Tuesday night and nearly on top of her.

The homeowner said that it’s not the first time she’s seen damage from storms, but it’s the worst.

“I’m so lucky to be alive,” Leila Jabbar said. “It’s just stuff, but I’m amazed I survived this.”

Jabbar said the tree fell through the roof while she was sitting in her office chair.

“I just scrambled,” she said, adding she only suffered a concussion. “Just pure adrenaline and shock.”

Jabbar is not the only one trying to clean up from Tuesday’s storms. In her neighborhood, residents said they are still clearing debris from their yards.

The residents said the worst part of clean-up is the trees.

“Even with the rain and the wind, it’s the trees,” said Michelle Crowder. “It’s scary because you don’t know what to expect because you look outside [and] the trees are leaning each way. You’re just sitting there and praying that a tree doesn’t fall.”

With another round of storms coming Friday, neighbors who just cleaned up are getting ready to do it all again.

“I’m trying to pull out as much as I can salvage,” Jabbar said.

Jabbar said she’s still waiting for the insurance company to come by and assess the damage, but they told her there’s so much damage everywhere that they don’t know when they can come out.
