Reports: US Capitol police arrest NCSU trustee on gun charge

A member of North Carolina State University's Board of Trustees was arrested Wednesday and charged with carrying a gun on U.S. Capitol grounds, according to several media reports.

Ronald William Prestage, 59, of Camden, S.C., was arrested at about 9:20 a.m. at an entrance to the Cannon House Office Building, when a Capitol Police officer found a loaded 9 mm Ruger handgun in his bag, according to The Washington Post and the Roll Call and Politico blogs.

An N.C. State alumnus, Prestage was appointed to the university's board in May 2013.

His family owns Clinton-based Prestage Farms, which processes about 1.25 billion pounds of turkey and pork each year. In 2012, the family donated $10 million to N.C. State's Department of Poultry Science.

Prestage also is president-elect of the National Pork Producers Council.
