After an extensive renovation effort, the Gravity Park Mountain Bike Trails at San-Lee Gravity Park will reopen to the public on Saturday, Dec. 11.

The trails were revamped in just under nine months thanks to Lee County Government, the Parks and Recreation Department, Back to Dirt Conservancy and Black Diamond Designs.

The park (760 Pumping Station Road, Sanford) will open at 8 a.m. and the official ribbon cutting for the mountain bike trails starts at 9 a.m. at the campground.

"After a thorough evaluation of the Gravity Park trails, it became clear that there was a need to update and maintain the trails so that riders of all skill levels could have an opportunity to enjoy this important community asset,” said Lee County Manager Dr. John Crumpton. “The bike trails at the park bring riders from all over the Southeast and Eastern United States to Lee County.”

Bikers will need to attend a safety briefing, scheduled to take place during the ceremony, before anyone can go on the trails. Rides for beginner and intermediate-level bikers are set for 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. The Black Diamond team will take a small number of expert riders down the advanced trails at 2 p.m.

A lunch will be provided at 11 a.m.

Lee County now plans to evaluate the single-track trail and walking trails around San-Lee Park and improve them in the coming months.
