News has it that conditions are cold on the East Coast and Midwest, where freezing temperatures are bringing entire city infrastructures to a halt as government agencies, schools, and businesses close while the streets ice over. In Atlanta, metro schools are closing tomorrow, and it's not the only city shutting down schools for safety and welfare.

16 people have already died in the Northeast due to the "killing cold," as the media are calling it, and heating systems are being put to extreme tests as the demand ramps up. If your Atlanta furnace isn't working properly, call an HVAC technician -- but also consider evacuating to a designated warming center, especially if you have very old, very young, or sick family members who are especially sensitive to cold. Need help finding a warming center? Search for your city and "warming center" or call a local hospital for information about where to go.
