Recipe: Sweet Apples (Jamei McGee)

Time for one of my family’s favorite - Sweet Apples topped with tasted oats. Others may call it an Apple Crisp, but my little ones call it “Sweet Apples” so Sweet Apples it is!

The recipe is super simple!

Filling:

  • 4-6 Granny Smith Apples (They are great for baking and are usually larger than the other apples)
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Apple Pie Seasoning (or you can use cinnamon and nutmeg)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 lemon squeezed

Topping:

  • 1 Cup Oatmeal (uncooked oats)
  • 1/4 cup Flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/4 cup Melted Butter
  • 1 tbsp Walnuts

1. PREHEAT oven 350.

2. Peel the Granny Smith Apples and slice them, as evenly as you can (don’t worry if they aren’t perfect! Nothing is)

3. Put them into a bowl, pour the lemon juice and stir

4. Add the 1 cup sugar, Apple Pie Seasoning, Vanilla Extract, and take 2 pinches of the flour and mix it all together with apples.

5. Cover and Refrigerate.

6. Get another bowl and pour in the Oats, Flour, Baking Powder and 2 tbsp Sugar, 1/4 melted butter. MIX

7. Grab your skillet, or pan (make sure it has a top) cook on Medium Heat - once it’s warm add 1/4 cup butter to the pan.

8. Next add the apples and all the juices. Turn to a lower heat (not quite a simmer) Cover for 5 -7 minutes, stir them 2 to 3 times

9. Once they’ve wilted. Take your 8x8 oven pan and add the apples

10. Add the Oat topping, as evenly as possible.

11. Pop it in the oven for 18-22 minutes.

12. Take it out. Let it cool for 3-5 minutes and serve with or without ice cream!

ENJOY!
