Raleigh woman driving at 100 mph crashes, closing part of I-40 near Cary
A driver was charged after a crash closed part of Interstate 40 westbound near Cary for almost two hours Tuesday morning.
Autumn Rain Plappert, 25, of 403 Wolf Creek Circle in Raleigh, was driving east on I-40 recklessly at speeds topping 100 mph, the State Highway Patrol said.
She lost control of her vehicle, which struck the guard rail, overturned and ended up in the westbound lanes, authorities said.
A state trooper said he found 138 feet of skid marks from where she lost control.
Plappert was found injured walking on Harrison Avenue while trying to flee the scene, the Highway Patrol said.
She was charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license and failure to wear a seat belt.
Plappert also was cited with assaulting a government officer. A citation states that she punched a Cary police officer investigating the crash.
Two other vehicles struck debris from the crash. No one else was injured.
