Raleigh looks to bring back July 4th fireworks this year

Fourth of July is shaping up to be the return of some larger scale in-person events for some cities.

In Raleigh, the city has budgeted $24,000 for this year's display near Carter-Finley Stadium. Officials tell WRAL News that fireworks will be the sole focus of the event, but they are considering big changes for 2022 including a change of location to Dix Park.

The fireworks display is put on by the city and is part of the city's 2022 budget, which begins July 1.

Raleigh isn't the only place talking about Independence Day.

The town of Wake Forest announced Tuesday that it would be bringing back its July 3 in-person celebration with fireworks.

Leaders also announced the return of several popular in-person events as COVID-19 restrictions are easing across the state.

That includes the fireworks show, as well as Friday Night on White, which will return Sept. 10.

“From the outset of the pandemic, we said that once state restrictions were lifted, we’d resume hosting in-person events,” said Wake Forest Mayor Vivian Jones. “Following last week’s announcement by Gov. Cooper, we’re beyond thrilled that we can resume gathering in-person with our family and friends for so many of our favorite community events.”

Last year, the town held its annual fireworks show at Heritage High School, but no guests were allowed.

Movie Nights at Joyner Park are also making a comeback.

You can find a full list of the events returning on the town's Facebook page.

Another big development in Wake Forest happening Wednesday - Wegmans is opening a supermarket on Ligon Mill Road.
