Lake Wheeler Park, a Raleigh park just south of the city, offers a monthly weekday event designed for families.

Picnic at the Park is at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., on the third Wednesday of each month, at the park at 6404 Lake Wheeler Rd., Raleigh. It's next planned for June 21 when the subject will be Tracks and Traces. Participants can learn about animal tracks and other signs that wild animals leave behind.

The program is designed for ages 2 and up. The cost is $2 per participant. Registration is required four days prior to the program. You'll need to bring your own picnic lunch.
