A Raleigh restaurant has been named a finalist for a national James Beard Award.

Crawford and Son is one of five restaurants nominated for outstanding hospitality. The nominees were announced Wednesday.

Crawford and Son is owned and operated by five-time James Beard semi-finalist Scott Crawford. He opened the restaurant in downtown Raleigh in 2016.

The James Beard Award honors those who are creating exceptional food, food media content and better food systems, while demonstrating a commitment to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability and a culture where all can thrive.

Dean Neff, of Seabird in Wilmington, is a finalist for outstanding chef, an honor previously won by Raleigh restaurant owner and Chef Ashley Christensen.

Jamie Davis of the The Hackney in Washington, N.C., is a finalist for best chef in the southeast. That honor was won in 2022 by Durham Chef Ricky Moore.

Winners will be celebrated at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony on June 10 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
