Raleigh offers free, drop-in Sensory Friendly Creative Saturdays

The city of Raleigh has a free drop-in art program for kids with sensory processing disorders or who are on the autism spectrum.

During the city's Sensory Friendly Creative Saturdays, visual artist Michelle Davis Petelinz will have a variety of materials and textures for kids to create with. "Whether you like to make a mess or keep it clean and tidy," according to the program's description, "you’ll find an art activity to enjoy."

The free, drop-in program includes accessible accommodations for those with sensory processing disorders or on the autism spectrum. But it is open to all ages and abilities.

The series started in July and continues monthly at different locations across the city.

Noon to 2 p.m., Aug. 4: Thomas Crowder Woodland Center, 5611 Jaguar Park Dr., Raleigh

1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sertoma Arts Center, 1400 W. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh

1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 27, Barwell Road Community Center, 5857 Barwell Park Dr., Raleigh

1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Nov. 10, Sertoma Arts Center, 1400 W. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh
