On cam: Coyote spotted in Raleigh neighborhood

Coyote sightings are making residents of Raleigh's busy Five Points neighborhood nervous, with some residents saying their pets have been attacked or even killed.

When you look around the neighborhood, you ask yourself where can they be coming from. There are houses everywhere -- but some residents say the coyotes have been spotted near a small wooded area that has a creek.

One video a neighbor took from her back patio has a chilling audio: The sound of coyotes.

They’ve even been spotted making late night strolls through the neighborhood.

“I’ve been hearing more and more," said Morgie Duke. "People are seeing them they are hearing them all over the neighborhood.”

Duke recently lost her beloved Baby Gaga, a cat that's been with her family for 13 years. Last month, Baby Gaga went for a walk and was later found dead.

Duke believes it was a coyote.

"I have cried so much. I miss her terribly," she said. "Your pets are your family."

Duke and her neighbors have been documenting these sightings.

According to NC State, coyotes tend to be nocturnal, but may be active early morning and during sunset.

Knowing this, residents have called animal control – but were told unless the coyote is hurt or on their property, there is not much they can do.

WRAL News did reach out to Animal Control to know more about how coyotes are addressed. We've also asked the Raleigh Police Department to provide numbers on possible coyote attacks in this area.
