Raleigh man faces extortion charge after family threatened

A Raleigh man faces an extortion charge for allegedly threatening another man to get $30,000, according to arrest warrants.

Warrants state that Johnathon Christopher Murray, 22, of 509 Ellis Court, threatened to kill the other man's wife and children and burn down his business if he wasn't paid.

Murray was placed in the Wake County jail under a $500,000 secured bond. Police argued in court records that he is a flight risk and has "large amounts of cash with no visible means of income."

Murray was also charged with misdemeanor larceny and possession of stolen goods after, warrants state, police found he had a license plate that had been stolen from a Carrboro man's vehicle.
