WakeMed, Duke Raleigh and UNC Health have all released statements after an individual was reported to have impersonated medical staff at local hospitals and facilities.

The individual has been seen interacting with staff and patients and even taking items from offices.

According to a statement from UNC Health, their security team was made aware of a suspicious person seen at their Raleigh campus.

"[Security] has taken several precautions, including increased visitor screenings at hospital entrances. They also are sharing information with law enforcement and other local hospitals. The health and safety of our patients, teammates and visitors is our top priority."

Duke Raleigh said law enforcement is seeking to find a man who had been making false claims to have local hospital credentials, who tried to gain access to Duke Raleigh earlier in the week. The man was posing as a patient sitter, but was challenged by staff for his lack of identification and did not gain access to patients, according to a statement.

"While we applaud our staff members for their vigilance, we are reviewing the events to ensure that all patient and staff safety measures are rigorously followed," said Duke Raleigh officials.

WakeMed said the man had been seen at other hospitals interacting with staff and patients, as well as taking items from offices and other locations.

"WakeMed strives to maintain a safe and secure environment for our staff, patients, and visitors—our Campus Police remains keenly aware and alert of the situation," said officials in a statement.
