Raleigh homes damaged by fallen trees in overnight storms

Heavy winds knocked trees over and into one home in the Glen Arbor neighbor in Raleigh.

Heavy winds knocked trees over in North Raleigh causing damage to homes.

Hail was reported at around 9 p.m. on Friday, and afterward storms and winds came through.

"At first there was just some small hail, and then it quickly got much larger and the winds became much stronger," said Nichole Chase, resident of the Glen Arbor neighborhood.

The neighborhood is located near Dominion Park off Leesville Road.

"Then it just changed the sounds -- the wind. Probably one of the scariest things I've ever experienced," Chase said.

Chase said that Miranda Drive and Erinsbrook Drive have the most damage in her neighborhood.

Residents have been saying there was a possible tornado that rolled through, but WRAL meteorologist Peta Sheerwood said that this was strong, damaging winds that blew through our area.

Heather Riley, who lives in the neighborhood near Dominion Park, also said there were several homes damaged. She said that there was "rotating rain" on Friday night.
