Raleigh boil water advisory canceled

A boil water advisory issued Monday morning for about 800 residents in the area of South Wilmington Street and Tryon Road in Raleigh has been canceled.

City officials canceled the advisory about 5 p.m. Monday after tests showed no bacterial contamination in the water.

Water in that area was shut down Sunday evening by mistake and restored about 6:30 p.m. The shutdown led to a loss in water pressure, which meant there was a potential for bacterial contamination from cross-connections or back siphonage.

When a boil water advisory is issued, residents shoud boil water for a full minute before using for drinking, cooking, ice-making or brushing teeth. Infants and pregnant women should use bottled water if possible.
