Wide Open Bluegrass starts this weekend

It's going to be a great weekend for bluegrass lovers, because the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival kicks off Friday.

WRAL is a proud sponsor of the two-day event, which features eight stages and more than 100 artists in downtown Raleigh. This year marks the sixth annual Wide Open Bluegrass festival, closing out the World of Bluegrass in Raleigh.

The free street festival kicks off at noon on Friday. On Friday and Saturday, attendees can enjoy music from local, national and international bluegrass performers. There will be seven stages along Fayetteville Street playing music from noon to 11 p.m.

There will also be a dance tent, a youth music stage and food.

The only thing people need tickets for is the Main Stage event at the Red Hat Amphitheater, which occurs on both days and features some of the best-known bluegrass performers in the nation.

There's a free app you can download with information on the festival.
