Power restored to 30,000 in Fayetteville

Power has been restored to approximately 30,000 homes and businesses in Fayetteville and Cumberland County after an outage early Friday morning.

The outage impacted an area that runs from downtown Fayetteville westward to Morganton Road; North to Pamalee Drive, South to Hope Mills Road/Cumberland Road and runs out Raeford Road to the Hoke County Line.

The outage began about 3 a.m. and PWC crews restored the power at about two hours later.

A second outage was reported in the Tiffany Pines subdivision at about 8 a.m. after a squirrel got into a transformer. Power there has also been restored.

“I do breakfast for Christmas. and I was making breakfast and had just put a pan of bacon in the oven and the lights just went out," said Janice Stukes. "(It was out) about 45 minutes. I called my daughter-in-law, who’s a 911 operator, and she said they had went out in the middle of the night.”

Initial indications are that the outage occurred at a location in the PWC system where power is fed from the Duke Energy system.

The cause of the outage is still under investigation.
