Relatives of a woman who was robbed outside her Fayetteville apartment late Sunday shot, beat and stabbed two men suspected in the purse-snatching, police said Monday.

Raufeal Weddy, 22, of Village Drive, was critically wounded, while Terrel Battle, 26, of Clark Street, was released from a local hospital Monday afternoon, police said.

Witnesses said the men tried to rob Maria Guebara, 47, of her purse outside 20 Cambridge Arms. When she began screaming, 10 to 15 family members and friends ran from nearby apartments and chased the suspected robbers, police said.

One of the men fired a shot that just missed one of the pursuers, leaving a hole in his clothing, police said.

Guebara's family and friends apprehended and disarmed the two men, shooting both in the struggle for their gun, police said. They then beat and stabbed the men, police said.

A third suspected robber fled the area in a silver Buick, police said.

The case remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
