Police: Student sells suspicious material at Sanderson High

A Sanderson High School student was arrested Wednesday on charges he sold potentially explosive materials at school, Raleigh police said. 

According to a search warrant, the 15-year-old told investigators that he learned how to make the substance on a YouTube video and had sold numerous bags of the material to other teens for years.

Wake County schools spokeswoman Renee McCoy, however, stressed that no students were ever in danger and that the substance was not explosive. Rather, she said, it contains a chemical compound that will produce smoke when it comes in contact with water.

Police searched the teen's home, but it's unclear what they found there.

The student's name was not released because of his age.
