Durham police have identified and were searching Monday for the man suspected of killing another man at a Durham gas station during a daylight shootout two months ago, investigators said.

Joel Bryan McDonald, 18, has been charged with murder in the Aug. 15 shooting death of Robert Darrell Taylor Jr., 22, on University Drive, police said in a written statement.

McDonald was not in custody as of Monday and Durham officers asked anyone with information about his whereabouts to call police.

Two people, including Taylor, were shot during the incident, which occurred around 4:30 outside a BP gasoline station located in the 1300 block of Hill Street and University Drive.

Several police officers responded to the scene and yellow crime scene tape was erected around the gas station where the incident occurred.

An unidentified 18-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Police did not say what his condition was as of Monday.

According to police, Taylor was driving on University Drive when shots were fired at his vehicle from a passing vehicle.

Anyone with information on McDonald’s whereabouts was asked to call Investigator Mitchell at 919-560-4440, ext. 29335.
