A man has been taken into custody after a police officer was shot during a standoff Tuesday in Greenville.

Police said Jonas Facito will be charged with attempted murder, in addition to other charges. A 9-month-old child who was inside the home with him has been rescued and was unharmed.

According to the Greenville Police Department, officers received a 911 call, believed to be a domestic dispute, around 8:30 p.m. from an apartment in the 600 block of Glendale Drive.

When an officer arrived at the scene, someone shot through the door with a shotgun, injuring the officer. It is unclear if shotgun pellets or shrapnel from the door injured the officer, according to police. Emergency crews took the officer to the hospital, and police expect the officer to recover.

Facito barricaded himself inside the apartment for more than five hours. Police have evacuated the area and asked anyone in the area to shelter in place.

Police said all nearby residents who were evacuated may return home at this time. There is no ongoing threat, according to police.
