Police have confirmed a fatal shooting that occurred in a Raleigh home on Wednesday afternoon is a murder-suicide.

According to officials, officers with the Raleigh Police Department arrived at 9409 Misty Creek Lane at about 4:26 p.m.

An investigation confirmed that a victim, Ashley Lauren Talarico, 30, was fatally shot. According to police, Nicholas Robert Talarico, 34, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A woman who told WRAL News that she was the landlord of the property said her tenants are a family of four; a mother, father and two children.

Neighbor Timothy Nicholason said he was outside for a Fourth of July cookout when officers arrived at the scene.

"It's a little concerning, with the celebrations going on and everything," he said. "We saw the helicopters and saw the news break and I was a little concerned about what was going on."

Nicholason described the neighborhood as family oriented and peaceful, and said he was surprised to learn police were investigating a death.

"You don't normally hear about that happening in this neighborhood," he said.
