One injured in Sunday evening shooting on Rothney Avenue in Southern Pines

Police are investigating a shooting in Southern Pines Sunday evening that left one person injured.

The incident occurred at 6 p.m. on Rothney Avenue, where emergency responders found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper leg.

While a helicopter was initially requested, weather conditions prevented its use.

The victim was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Law enforcement officials at the scene believe the incident was isolated and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
