2 Suspects in jail after high-speed chase out of Clayton ends with crash in Wake County

Police arrested and charged two people on Saturday with stealing from a CVS Pharmacy, leading them on a high-speed chase.

The incident started when a Johnston County deputy responded to a 911 call about a suspicious vehicle at a CVS Pharmacy in Clayton.

The caller reported that the vehicle was backed up to the front doors and the driver was wearing a full face mask.

According to authorities, the woman passenger from the car was inside the store stealing merchandise. When she quickly left the store, jumped into the car.

When the deputy arrived, the car sped away. The deputy pursued the car, which was traveling at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour and running red lights.

The chase continued into Clayton, where the suspects drove through busy intersections at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour.

The suspects eventually led deputies into Wake County, where they side-swiped another car and then struck a deputy's vehicle at the intersection of Bethlehem Road and Poole Road.

The suspect vehicle's driver jumped out and ran but was soon captured by deputies.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with fleeing to elude arrest, drug possession, and larceny. They were transported to the Johnston County Jail.
