Police: Alcohol, speed played a role in fatal Durham crash

Authorities said alcohol and speed appear to have played a role in a fatal crash Friday afternoon in Durham.

Durham police said a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck driven by Kwan Scott, 41, crossed over Cheek Road and crashed into a manhole cover sticking out from the ground on Harvest Street just after 12:30 p.m.

Police said Scott lost control and the truck stopped on an embankment along the side of the road.

Scott, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the crash remains under investigation
