Police add charges after Fayetteville girl's gun death

After his 2-year-old found his weapon, fired it and accidentally killed herself, Melvin Andre Clark Jr. tried to hide that gun, police say. That action led police to tack on more charges against him this week.

According to the warrant his arrest, police K-9s found Clark's .22 caliber Beretta behind a neighboring home. Clark, a convicted felon, should not have had a gun at all.

Police say Samarri Tyana Beauford found the loaded .22 semi-automatic pistol under a couch Oct. 20 in a home she shared with her father.

He faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His attempt to hide the gun earned him additional charges of resisting a public officer and failure to store a firearm.

Clark was in jail on a $50,000 secured bond.
