Poe Center for Health Education's annual Terrific Teeth Day will go on in 2021. The annual event will take place live online from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 6.

The event kicks off Children's Dental Health Month and is held in partnership with the Raleigh Wake County Dental Society. The month brings awareness to a staggering fact—20% of kids ages 5 to 11 have at least one untreated decayed tooth. Untreated cavities, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, can lead to issues with eating and talking and make it harder for kids to learn and play.

The event is designed for preschoolers to third graders and their families. It's free.

During the virtual event, kids will see a magic show, decorate tooth fairy pillows, meet a dentist and participate in a read-along.

If you RSVP by Feb. 3, you can pick up a complimentary smile kit which includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, activity sheets, snack ingredients, craft supplies and more. Supplies are limited.

To participate in the event, go to Poe's website to register. The program will take place via Zoom.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Feb. 20, the American Dental Association also will be offering free treatments for kids ages 4 to 16, including x-rays, exams, cleanings, sealants, fillings and more. Appointments are required. Call (919) 390-6497.
