Chatham County deputies arrested a Pittsboro man and charged him with five counts of felonious statutory rape after he was accused of having sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl.

Deputies began working the case Sunday afternoon when they received information from a family member of the girl that Mauro Gilberto Delgado-Perez, 30, of 225 Masonic St., had assaulted the girl.

Delgado-Perez turned himself in to authorities later that day and was cooperative with investigators, authorities said.

Deputy Joseph Engel and Detective Tom McGinty arrested Delgado-Perez and he was jailed under a $750,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on July 27.
