A pickup truck on Wednesday plowed into a school bus carrying students in Cumberland County.

The bus crashed before 8:15 a.m. on N.C. Highway 24 near Clinton Road and Bainbridge Drive.

Six students heading toward Armstrong Elementary were on board.

The bus did not overturn, and no children were injured, according to a spokesperson from Cumberland County Schools.

Sky 5 flew overhead at 9:20 a.m., showing a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup overturned in the grassy area beside the road. The school bus had minor front-end damage.

According to the superintendent, the school bus was on N.C. 24 attempting to make a U-turn on a green light when it was hit by a pickup truck that went through the red light.

The pickup truck slammed into the side of the bus landed on its side in the woods.

The students were loaded onto another bus and taken to school. The parents of those students have been notified.

The driver of pickup truck was taken to Cape Fear Valley hospital. She will be charged with a red light violation.
